Child marriage and child prostitution: Two forms of sexual exploitation

The article highlights similarities between child marriages and child prostitution: economic transactions, lack of freedom, and violation of a child’s right to consent.

Focusing on North Africa and the Middle East, the article draws on anecdotal evidence, limited research samples, communication with local actors, and the author’s own personal experience in the region.

It also discusses initiatives undertaken by a range of institutions with the aim of preventing these practices.
