Plan’s 8th State of the World’s Girls report looks at the structural barriers that girls and women continue to face in both the context of social institutions - such as their families and communities - as well as in formal institutions such as the state and economy. It asks how power can be reconstructed in these spaces to allow women and girls a more equitable life.
While changes in legislation and policy are critical, the report emphasises the role and power of collective action and the rise of social movements at community level to help bring about a tipping point for gender equality.
