This article explores the health and wellbeing of adolescent aged 10 to 14 years in Somali refugee communities in Ethiopia.
While education has improved in the Kobe refugee camp, the stud found that child marriage and early pregnancy remain key risks for young adolescent girls and the most significant barrier to their education. Deeply rooted gender norms and risks of sexual violence push families to adopt child marriage as a protective mechanism, despite the range of harmful consequences for child brides.
