The study analyses the relationship between intimate partner violence (IPV) and early marriage, using data from the 2005-2006 India National Family Health Survey (NFHS-3) with a focus on youth living in Bihar and Rajasthan.
The study finds that women aged 20-24 who married before 18 are more likely to have experienced intimate partner violence than women who married later.
It recommends decreasing child marriage rates in India to reduce prevalence of intimate partner violence.
