Between 2013 and 2015, Promundo conducted exploratory research in two districts in Brazil to explore the attitudes and practices around child and adolescent marriage. The report highlights how, in Brazil, the practice differs from the more ritualised and formal nature seen in some high prevalence countries and must instead be seen within the context of power differentials and the limited choices available to girls. The report finds that the average age of marriage and age of first birth for married girls in Brazil is 15 years.
