Child marriage and intimate partner violence: a comparative study of 34 countries

This article explores the links between child marriage and intimate partner violence among young women and girls across different countries and regions.

This study found that women who married as children were more likely to report intimate partner violence (IPV) compared with those who married as adults. Thus, the paper argues that reducing IPV will likely require addressing child marriage.

The author calls for the implementation and evaluation of programmes and policies that address child marriage and protect married girls, and are relevant to the geographical and cultural context in which they are rolled out.
