"Yes I do" is a Dutch alliance of civil society organisations working on female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C), child marriage, and teenage pregnancy in seven countries in Africa and Asia.

Baseline research for the programme finds that:

  • Child marriage and teenage pregnancy are intertwined across all countries and have different consequences, depending on the sequence.

  • The link between child marriage and FGM/C is strongest in Kenya.

  • The growing gap between young people and older generations has an impact on how young people express their sexuality, desires and exercise their autonomy.

Findings from the research are being used to inform ongoing interventions in all seven countries.
