This study looks at variations and patterns of child marriage in India and finds that although there has been a significant decline, especially for girls under 15 years, a third of all girls continue to marry as children. In some districts child marriage appears to be on the increase.

The study stresses the need for an improvement in the social and economic conditions in girls and women’s immediate environment to bring about social change.
