Drawing on the results from 7 impact evaluations supported by the World Bank Group, this brief looks at the evidence of what works to delay the age of marriage and reduce child marriage.
It finds that effective programmes will ultimately increase girls' educational attainment, increase girls' value and opportunities in society, and reduce poverty.
The brief stresses that more rigorous and long-term impact evaluations are needed to better understand intervention components and delivery mechanisms that are effective in preventing child marriage.
