Too young to wed: the growing problem of child marriage among Syrian girls in Jordan

Over the past three years, official statistics show that child marriage among Syrian refugee communities in Jordan has risen year-on-year and in some cases has doubled.

Lack of resources, poor economic opportunities and a desire to protect their daughters from sexual violence during conflict are some of the main drivers behind some families’ decision to marry their girls at a young age.
