Pastoral Women's Council (PWC) was founded in 1997 by ten Maasai women living in Loliondo Division, Ngorongoro District in northern Tanzania. For the first five years of its existence, the organisation focused exclusively on rescuing girls from early and forced marriages and sponsoring them through school. PWC continues with this work to-date but has introduced other areas of intervention, including women's economic empowerment, the promotion of women's rights including land rights, as well as providing sexual and reproductive health education.
